Shooting Law Services

The services that we can provide are through our connection with a speciailst Shooting Law practice. Their service starts with an initial appraisal based on the facts supplied. A swift response will be provided to written, faxed, emailed or telephone enquiries.

The range of matters that I have dealt with and that I expect to arise includes:-

  • Shotgun and Firearms Certificate Appeals;
  • Negotiations with the police about Revocations and Refusals
  • Court appearances about gun law offences
  • Advising shooting ground clubs and proprietors
  • S.S.S.I. cases
  • The grant of shooting and stalking Licences
  • Anti poaching and illegal coursing cases
  • Rights of way and shoot trespass cases
  • Leases and Licences for land
  • Wildlife Cases
  • Health & Safety Defences
  • Many other aspects of shooting and country law

In Shotgun and Firearms Certificate Appeals, our specialist has recovered the Certificates of clients revoked for many different reasons. These range from revocations for alcohol and drug abuse and after domestic incidents to many different sorts of convictions. Whatever trouble Certificate Holders encounter with their Certificates, our specialist is interested in representing them and trying to secure the reinstatement of their Certificates.

Our specialist is skilled in negotiations with Firearms Licensing Authority representatives and always keen to resolve differences between the relevant FLA and the Certificate holder. (Sometimes there can be a simple breakdown in communication between them).

Not infrequently the opening salvo of trouble for a Certificate Holder takes the form of a prosecution for an alleged criminal offence (sometimes firearms related, sometimes not) and if the client prefers to pay (rather than rely on the basic public funding service) then our specialist will act. He has achieved some great results in defending various prosecutions involving allegations of assault, firearms offences, poaching, illegal trapping and many more. Our specialist also acts in Hunting law cases.

Our specialist also represents landowners and shoot managers in the regulatory law field. Typically health & safety prosecutions have to be defended and landowning clients interests safeguarded in dealings with such bodies as English Nature.

As between landowners, farmers and shoot tenants, our specialist drafts and approves Leases and Licences. With his long experience of shoots and shooting combined with his legal training, our specialist often has the edge on his opponents in these transactions.

There are many other areas of field sports law too numerous to mention but the chances are that our specialist will have encountered most of them. When he is not shooting , stalking or fishing it's likely he will be working on a case involving "hunting, shooting or fishing" or some related countryside issue.
